The conversations complete with voice acting have all been completed. The Smith :- Part of the Horadric Malus quest, found in The Barracks.Īndariel :- The Maiden of Anguish and the cause of all the problems for the rogues Pitspawn Fouldog :- Tainted, found in The Jailīone Ash :- Skeleton Mage in The Cathederal Found in The Forgotten Tower guarding a pile of loot. The Countess :- Not technically a Corrupted Rogue, although she has the same appearance. Griswold :- A character from the original Diablo, he was the town blacksmith who has been corrupted in the same manner as the rogues. Treehead Woodfist :- Wendingo boss who guards the Tree Of Inifus
Rakanishu :- The nemesis of many new players, a Fallen in the Stony Field who guards The Cairn Stones They are an act3 monster and I won't useīesides the standard cannonfodder type monsters I've listed above, there are the special 'super-unique' monsters I will need to address alsoĬorpsefire :- Unique Zombie in The Den Of Evilīishibosh :- Fallen Shaman in The Cold Plainsīlood Raven :- Corrupted Rogue, part of quest 2, found in Burial Grounds Finally, the ratmen only ever appear in one location in act 1, even then they feel out of place. Goatmen and Tainted are unique to the D2 world, I'm not sure how I could reproduce them easily in my module. Gargoyle traps will not appear in my module, they are a bit pointless in my opinion. Wendingos are a very interesting monster, they have a certain resemblence to bugbears so perhaps the bugbear model is the way to go. Besides I have always hated the 'monster factory' type structure used in some games. I'm not particularly fond of either bloodhawks or spikefiends, I think these could easily be substituted for wolves, bears and rats. Bloodhawks are a demonic type of bird creature who are constantly respawned by a nest-type structure that must beĭestroyed by the player while giant spiders are just great big spiders. Wendingos are a hulking, yeti type creature who like to get up close and personal. Spike fiends are annoying, porcupine creatures that have a ranged attack. There are an assortment of beasts in the wilderness. In D2, the vampire is a fire based mage who is rather withered and undead looking whereas in NWN2, vampires are much more human in appearance. The only real difference here will be the vampire. These creatures are represented very well in NWN2 and integrating them into my module will be simple. From the burial ground near the start of the game to henchmen in Andariels chamber, the sweet aroma of undead flesh is always in the air. Skeletons, zombies and vampires are a staple monster in any good fantasy game and D2 is no different. They will be simple to recreate in my module as they are a basic humanoid with standard weapons.
The obvious choice for these creatures in my mod is to use the goblin model.Ī twisted version of the denizens in the Rogues Camp, these are Andariels frontline soldiers and have a big role to play throughout Act1. They are never really a challenge to the player unless en masse, yet the fallen shaman can be a royal pain in the ass with their constant resurrecting. Their bright, vivid colour combined wit h their delightful sounds are unmistakeable. These critters play a huge roll in the opening stages of D2. (pics shamelessly stolen from The Arreat Summit) Creating a completely new creature model is beyond the scope of my limited abilities and so I will have to look at what is available both in the NWN2 community and included in the game as standard before deciding how best to represent the creatures I want to use in my module and deciding which will be best left omitted.įirst off, lets take a look at some of the monsters that populate the early stages of Diablo 2
On another note, I've been thinking alot about monsters, the D2 creatures and their NWN2 closest counterparts.
I only lost a couple hours worth of tweaking and fiddling which was mostly just an exercise in learning so there is no real harm done.įrom this point onwards I will be diligently be backing up all my work! I'm a bit lazy about making backups of my work generally, but I think I got lucky this time. I'm not quite sure what caused it but it resulted in me losing all my preliminary lighting work, I managed to salvage all my conversations and import them into an earlier backup I had.
